Sooooooooo, If I had been trying to legitimately backpack through El Salvador this book would definitely not have been sufficient. I bought it because its the newest edition of all the travel books on El Salvador, which can be very important when traveling in a country with limited transportation options, and is not so tourism savy. In my case it didnt matter because I traveled with family who live there. So they drove us around, and knew where all the fun spots were at.Anyway, this is basically 95 page book with brief descriptions of both tiny and large towns of El Salvador, listings for places to sleep, eat, play, shop etc. Which makes sense.... its 95 pages long.If I were to do it again, but on my own, I would bring this book in addition to one of the older, more thorough travel books available.

I was excited to see something new put out for El Salvador, a country I know (fairly) well and LOVE. Sadly, I didn't feel that this book was very helpful and lacked details. Maybe that is what it is meant for, and if you are traveling quickly through the country this book is for you. However, for someone who has lived in El Salvador and traveled in it as well, it wasn't very exciting or provided any new information. I would rather recommend the Lonely Planet El Salvador/Nicaragua book. At this point it may be a bit out dated with prices or bus routes, but very well written and informative.

A dangerous place. You should read all about it before you decide whether or not to go. This book is safe and cheap compared with a plane ticket and a body guard.

Their felicities in phrasing, their wit and delight in words, shine here. One can read without flinching at miserable grammar, execrable style. "It isn't often (E. B. White again) one finds a good writer(s) who is also a good friend(s).Which brings me to what I love most about this book. Eck and Winterrowd do not turn aside from the sorrows, slings, and arrows of gardener misfortunes or the human condition. What shine through this book is caritas and amitas---the dear love of their garden and home, of the marvels of plants (the rarer, obscurer, more challenging the better such as in their delight in growing Himalayan blue poppies), of their families and friends, and of each other.Enjoy!

This is one of my all-time favorite gardening books. I bought this copy for a friend. Only the hard cover has a map of the garden; the paperback version does not, so I always get a used hardcover version even when giving as a gift.

I love reading about other people's garden stories and this book did not disappoint. They had great plant knowledge, but i never felt like I was being talked down to. Their garden chores and to-do's written by month are similar to my own and so I could relate. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

A pleasant read and loaded with lots of good information. It has inspired me to try some new varieties and to appreciate the seasons just a bit more.

This book is beautifully written, a pleasure to read over the long winter, dreaming of gardens and green. It has sent me hurrying to look up more about plants unfamiliar to me and nurseries new to me. I'm inspired by this book, and I'm reading it slowly to savor every paragraph and every photo.

Great little book, covering a lot of fun rides and gives plenty of information on the rides. Was a very inexpensive buy on Amazon and well worth it!! It's compact size also makes it handy to carry along on rides and travel with. Maybe not comprehensive and doesn't cover ALL rides, but enough to get started in a new area. Well worth the few dollars it costs.

I started with the book "Short Bike Rides in Colorado," which was okay, except the majority of the rides involved first driving 200-300 miles from Denver. The ride itself was short, but the entire trip would take sitting in traffic the whole day.This book fits the bill much better. 49 rides split between Denver and Boulder (appropriate title) of varying difficulty. The author includes not only the level of difficulty (technical and aerobic), but the type of trail (singletrack, doubletrack, ATV road, etc.) and how many miles of each the trail consists of. Extremely helpful, as I'm not a big fan of singletrack so I will probably save those trails for last.I also appreciated the tiny bits of humor scattered throughout, particularly the definition of doubletrack where he states "the other rut will always look smoother." I biked Barr Lake after 3 days of pouring rain (learned my lesson, believe me) and this was exactly my experience!I'm looking forward to exploring most of these trails soon. This book provides an excellent starting point to know where to go first.EDIT: I'm guessing Mr. D'Antonio is assuming more than a basic level of skill in his readers. Waterton Canyon, which is rated a difficulty of 1, was basically a dirt road. Beautiful country and really, really easy. I hit Deer Creek Canyon next based on his rating of 2-3, thinking it couldn't be that much more difficult.Either there has been some massive erosion since the book was published in 2003, or the author saves his highest rating of 5 for biking around the rim of an active volcano. The trail was INSANELY difficult and I ended up walking most of the first mile up before giving up and turning around. This trail includes the "Wall of Shame" which has several YouTube videos devoted to far more experienced bikers trying (and mostly failing) to navigate it.I'll still use the book as a starting point to find trails, but will check out YouTube footage before packing up all my gear to head out for another fun-filled hour of pushing my bike uphill over near-impassable conditions.

I have purchased the FalconGuide books for Moab and Fruita both are great. But this is the one that I use almost daily. It has a ton of rides that are 30 minutes or less from where I live. I ride trails in this book 3 - 4 times weekly. I save the ones that are a little farther away for the weekend. But all in all a great book. Nice size to so you can take it with you when you ride.

I downloaded the e-book believing that the book had been published in 2011 (only the ebook edition had been published in that year), but then, having realized that the paperback dated from 1997, I was at first disappointed, then I considered it an asset as it would be interesting to see what information had been added to the story over those 13 years.Bruce Paley did not convince me that Mary Kelly's lover, Joseph Barnett, was Jack the Ripper, but he sure caught my attention telling why he thought that Barnett was JtR.He also has my admiration for having done some splendid research. Being a true crime writer myself, I can well imagine the mass of material he must have had when finally he started to write 'The Simple Truth'.He is an excellent writer and never did I have a dull moment reading this book.

I enjoyed this book. I am by no means a Ripper expert, but it is well written and definitely persuasive. My only real issue with this book is that it focuses one person as the suspect. After reading this, it is hard to believe that that suspect was not the killer, but it would have been nice for the author to address some of the other suspects, at least to help us understand fully why he dismisses them.

Bruce Paley has written a great piece of Ripper literature. "Jack the Ripper: The Simple Truth" is meticulously researched, well written, and quite entertaining. It paints a picture of Whitechapel and East London that made it quite real to me. He lays out a convincing case against Joe Barnett. Paley's thesis was quite original when he first introduced it. There is very little actual evidence against Barnett, but Paley uses modern methodology to point right at the person who would be one of the first suspects today. The boyfriend of one of the victims.The Kindle version does have some formatting problems, but I didn't find any that interfered with the flow of the book. I'm reviewing the book, and I found it very well done. It's well worth a read to anyone interested in Ripperology, Victorian London, true crime, or serial killers. I liked this book very much and could barely put it down. I can't say if this is the best Ripper book out there, but I can say that I enjoyed it a lot.I also found the meticulous endnotes and research very useful for further study.

Bruce Paley has given this investigation new legs. His proposal of a new Jack the Ripper is very well researched and his conclusion is solid.I don't think ANYONE will ever truly know who Jack the Ripper was, but he weaves a fascinating argument in favor of his pick.Paley has obviously done an exhaustive investigation of both Jack the Ripper and his victims. I have read a lot of articles and books on this subject and, while I am no expert, there was a tremendous amount of information that I didn't know existed. Especially about the victims.If you are a budding Ripperologist or just interested in a new approach on an old theme, this is a great place to start.If you are one of the many people who actively study the Ripper murders, don't pass this book by. Even if you don't agree, there is a lot of historical insight to be gained here.Well written and easy to read and follow.

As far as the book itself, I loved it. Thought it very well researched and thought out, and Barnett is certainly one of the most viable candidates for the Ripper. However, and this is the reason for the two stars (for the book itself I would have given five), there are so many typos, ranging from running five words together as one to consistently showing words containing the letter combination "r n" as "m", that it makes reading it extremely annoying, if not impossible. Many times I had to reread a sentence several times before I could figure it out. More careful editing please!

The Kindle version is filled with typographical errors to the point that it is nearly unreadable. In addition, the well-known mortuary photographs of the victims are labeled incorrectly. If facts this common and well known are wrong, why should I believe any other fact the author presents? The story is well presented, and I cannot blame the author for the extremely poor reproduction of the Kindle version. Perhaps the print version is better, but I just cannot recommend this title.

I really enjoyed the details of life during late 19th century East End London.; what a difficult life the people had, especially the children.

Good reading. Well documented. Interesting theory of Ripper's story. Personal use.
