I downloaded this book for free on my kindle in exchange for my honest review. I have been curious about the Ketogenic diet and have downloaded other books talking about the benefits. This ebook, however, gives a short and sweet introduction to the Ketogenic diet and dives right into different recipes. Some of them are so simple to follow! I am no chef, but I do try to experiment with the ingredients I have in the kitchen to make a tasty (enough) meal. The one I am most excited to try is the tofu scramble. One thing I am marking down a star for is there is (presumably) an error in at least one of the recipes and it suggests using whey protein. Last I checked, vegans don't use whey protein because it comes from milk. But! The one thing that I like best about this ebook is that you can go back to the beginning and press on different links to the different recipes. I am going to keep this ebook in my library for easy access to the different easy to follow healthy recipes.

Great book on Ketogenic diet, this book explains how you can eat vegan and follow the diet. It has a 15 day meal plan, with lots of variety of dishes. I especially like the Keto Breakfast cereal, so tasty and great way to start your morning.

A variety of recipes and includes a meal plan. Not being strictly Vegan nor Ketogenic I cannot be sure of my impression there may be some things included that don't meet requirements of those diets.

The Vegan Ketogenic Diet e-book was not what I was expecting. The e-book consists of an actual diet plan including a lot of vegan recipes using coconut milk, coconut flour, avocados, and a lot of other very health ingredients. Recipes are simple to complex and cover beverages to desserts. If you are looking for some tasty recipes to add to your diet, whether you follow this plan or not, this e-book could be a great addition. The only true downside is the e-book can only be read with the Kobo viewer either on a compatible device or laptop. It is not compatible with Kindle devices and the laptop viewer is a challenge to use. For me this is a real problem as I use my smartphone and Kindle in the kitchen a lot. This book caters to a very unique niche- the Vegan Ketogenic diet. I have sometimes wondered if its possible to do a Keto diet as a vegetarian and this book shows that you can. However, it will be more challenging than it would be for a meat eater. The recipes look intriguing in here. I didn't try them out but I flipped through to see the variety.My biggest concern is the strange/rare ingredients listed on many of the recipes. I would not know where to find things like "hemp hearts". It would be helpful to see an explanation of where to find these things.However, if you can track down the ingredients, this could be a very valuable resource.

I have been successful with weight loss using the standard Atkins type keto diet (20g carb) and was hoping to find some unique inspiration here. NOPE. I downloaded using the Kindle Unlimited and read the recipes on my laptop and have stopped a few pages in.NO CARB COUNTS.... what the heck? Without basic nutritional info including carb counts/fiber/net carbs, you can't successfully have a ketogenic recipe book. Lame. I've been doing this long enough to know the basic carb amounts on the standard items but come on, such lazy writing which leads me to suspect this is just a cut and paste of recipes off much better sources. If you enjoy sleuthing about and wasting time/money on recipes you could find for free on websites, this ebook is for you. If you want to just cut out grains and junk and still loose weight compared to the standard Western diet, this is for you. Otherwise PASS. I suspect the other high star reviews are from people who don't understand keto and who want to keep up a high star rating for free product.

This was a very interesting book, coming from a vegetarian who's interested in losing weight. The book had a meal plan which I'm not really fond of, to be honest, I always feel when it comes to meal plans it's almost set in stone what I'm going to be eating for the next few weeks, and I actually like more free will and choices, so a good comprehensive list and some recipes would have been better for me. The rest of the book was pretty interesting, though. I enjoyed learning more, and I'm really hoping to implement ketogenic eating into my diet.

Warning - this book is a scam. You’ve been warned. I suspect that the positive reviews are friends of or copy accounts by the author, plain and simple.The physical book is printed in extremely poor quality. Once you begin reading it, a good many of the recipes are barely if at all keto, calling for heavy portions of carrots and tomatoes and apples and other high carb ingredients in sizeable portions. And, there are absolutely no nutritional breakdowns for a single recipe; no idea what the caloric/carbohydrate/fat/fiber/protein count is, not even net carbs, unless you yourself do the number-crunching (which more often led me to non-keto figures).I am including pictures so that you can see I’m not making this up. I was bamboozled so that you don’t have to be! And yes, Sam, I am contacting Amazon about this farce as well.

It is about family, about how you impart wisdom to the next generation, what it means to embrace America while holding on to your culture and tradition, all with lively humor and love. It is about three generations of a Mexican American family living in Southern California looking at their past, facing death, and still trying to make sense of this crazy mixed up world that is both magnificent and crushing.Many memorable novels have characters who leave a lasting impression. The protagonist Big Angel has an immense presence, yet he is willing to admit his frailties. Perhaps it is because he is looking death in the face. No matter, he is a man with a broad range that once you hear his voice and learn his secrets, you will never forget him. All the while, getting to know his family will be the most fun you have ever had without the drama of your own.Big Angel had me when he was looking for signs of his dearly departed mother or his son.“When he was a boy, Mother had taught him that a rainbow was a bridge where angels walked down from heaven. In Spanish, it was an arco iris. This was so much more lovely than English, like the name of a butterfly or hummingbird or daisy. He felt smug about this: go, Spanish! Sunflower: girasol, he thought.”I am deeply in love with the Spanish language, which I don’t speak. If you love the language, and for many other reasons, you are in for a real treat with THE HOUSE OF BROKEN ANGELS.

In his vivid multi-generational tale of a Mexican-American family, Luis Alberto Urrea offers up fallen angels (husbands, fathers, sons, brothers) and caregiving saints (wives, mothers, daughters, sisters). At times, I had trouble remembering the identities of third or even second generation characters, a confusion exacerbated by their multiple nicknames. And, even in context, the meaning of some Spanish expressions eluded me. Despite these gaps, I was drawn into the wild ride of life events and complicated relationships among the de la Cruz kin. Some are common to all extended families, others unique to a culture proud of itself yet shamed by a society that regards them as “less than” their white counterparts. Overall, the book has the zest, orneriness, kindness, rage, and spirit of a wild and crowded fiesta.

I really want just to say “Buy this book now and read it tonight”. Almost everything has been said about this wonderful novel, but let me add this: There are passages in which the language is so wonderful, you just want to cut it out of the page and chew it up. Don’t be discouraged by the death of the patriarch. This book will make you want to live bigger than you’re living right now.

This is a very good novel. The events happen now and take place over a few days, mostly in San Diego and Baja California. A huge Mexican- American family has encounters, comic and sad. You may want to look up a few words printed in Spanish, but only a few.There is food, sexual flirtation, insults, comedy, and a touch of modern references. If you have a stereotype of Mexican-Americans in your head, this will change it. There is enough variety to keep a reader pleasantly off-balance. I will read more of this writer.

“The House of Broken Angels” is a book about a family. A BIG family. The head of the family is Miguel Angel De La Cruz, AKA “Big Angel” AKA “Flaco.” He is a sort of Atlas figure, carrying his family’s whole world on his shoulder, but as the novel opens, that world is slipping from his grasp. Big Angel is dying of cancer, and his days—even his hours—are numbered.The novel is a patchwork of stories, wrapped in a collage of characters, tangled up in a web of relationships. There is a plotline that runs through the entire work, but it is almost unnecessary. The author may have included it simply as a respectful nod to the ancient art he has taken up—and that’s fitting: this is a novel very much about respect for what has come before.There are a lot of characters, and at first, I found it intimidating trying to keep up, but eventually, I just relaxed and let their stories wash over me. Clearly, the author is sympathetic to readers who might be a bit overwhelmed by the chaos. He does a good job of reminding you at intervals who these people are, and also reassures the reader that if you get confused at times, it’s okay: Even the characters themselves don’t always know if the guy that just walked in the door is a brother, cousin, uncle, nephew . . . or a complete stranger hoping to sneak in and snag a free cup of instant coffee in all the confusion.The reader, of course (at least this reader), feels like that stranger, at first. It is the art of this novel that by-and-by, the reader begins to feel like family. It’s a marvelous transformation.Hey, Sis, pass the condensed milk and tell me another story about our Abuelo.

All my rage shall be directed toward Jonathan Harr, who had the audacity to set up an impossible situation, made me care about the real life characters this situations involved, meticulously set up the conditions under which this the real life characters finally decided to pursue the impossible task, bluff me into thinking they had a strong chance of being successful, and forced me to feel so many panging emotions as the characters suffer loss after loss after loss after loss, and leading me to think over and over and over "maybe things will be different this time, maybe justice will finally be served," and time and time again that optimism is revoked, and I'm forced down from my elation into reality.Harr has made me into a fool. A naive, overly optimistic fool. Having just finished this book, within the past few minutes, I think to myself, "how could I have been so stupid to really think, given everything I was subject to witness over the past four hundred pages, that there was even a slight hope for justice?" I really don't know. I mean seriously, Harr basically tells you, multiple times throughout the book, that this story is not going to have a happy, yet every new revelation, every new piece of information that's discovered, I was stupid enough to be dragged into Jan Schlichtmann's elation, to feel what he was feeling in those moments, to think to myself that the world is a just place where justice cannot help but be served when the divide between right and wrong is so painfully obvious, so clearly illustrated, so irrefutable, and then, alas, justice does not come. And the defeat failed to become real for me until the final ten pages of the book, which was when it became clear to me that there just wasn't enough book left for any kind've of miraculous twist of fate to manifest itself within the coming pages, and only then did I allow myself to accept defeat, and not a moment sooner.I'm sorry if I spoiled it for anybody, like myself, who was not aware of how these events ultimately turned out before it was introduced to them through this book, but the heroes lose in this true story. Knowing the ending shouldn't deter you from reading it, though. It is a truly marvelous work of non-fiction writing.

I could not put down this brilliant piece of journalism, on one of the first Superfund cases in U.S. history.Before it became a super fund case, however, a lawyer devoted years of his life to obtain justice and compensation for those in the small Massachusetts town whose water supplies had been compromised enough to kill them, including one of the executives defending the companies who were charged; the lawyer lost all his cases.This was a case of justice gone badly wrong, and a judge who ignored the facts and perhaps even twisted the laws, possibly because of his intense dislike for the attorney who had the chutzpah to bring the cases in the first place, a man who simply did not give up and himself lost almost everything he had to do it.It was also a case of courage and honesty for the greater good.All journalists and students of journalism should read this book. A finer example of a full-length investigative work like this is hard to find.

Taking it from my bedside table I started to read it twice but fell asleep thinking "This is a terrific book." I got up the following Sunday morning at 5AM and read the book in one glorious sitting. My uncle borrowed it and left a message on my answering a couple of days later, "Jim...you owe me a night's sleep." My daughter read it and loved it. I just ordered it for my thirteen year old granddaughter. We'll see what she thinks. I may be back.

Set everything aside if you start reading this. In other words, it's best read on a long plane ride over the Pacific Ocean, when you can't be distracted. This book was so intriguing and interesting. It's a fascinating look at something that seems so black and white, but legalese makes it so gray. The obvious answer to all the deaths and diseases in the town of Woburn was the dumping of chemicals into the soil. So, why then, was it so difficult for the idiotic judge and jury to not see that?!?!? This book totally caught my attention and makes me upset at our legal system. Absolutely captivating.

If it didn't hit so close to home, it might of been just another well written story. Sadness and anger many times kept me awake at night after having to put it down. Reading it puts you in the courtroom. I'm so sorry for those families... and to my cousin RIP.

It is witty, heartbreaking, and covers exactly how long-lasting litigation works.The Bad: Some readers may find the level of detail and the amount of information on both the legal system and the characters intimidating and/or confusion.

A very well written book, thoughtfully and thoroughly researched. Reminds us once again that we all need to be our own protectors and advocates in a world, careless at best about public safety. And I believe I might need to rethink my low opinion of “all” attorneys.

With solid footnotes even the most casual follower of Tolkien's world will glean what these drawings and designs are all about. John Howe is such a masterful artist and illustrator that everything from sketches to full painting reveal his passion to create images to haunt, invite and thrill readers into the worlds hewn to such clarity of purpose that it's hard to resist falling into them from time to time.This is worthy of ANYONE'S bookshelf, from readers of the fantastic, artistic reference and certainly for Tolkien readers of all types. some might quibble with the small samples of finished paintings but the drawings more than make up for it, like life studies of places he managed to visit while we can only read about them.

John Howe's work depicting J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth is instantly recognizable, not only because he worked beside Peter Jackson in bringing The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit to film, but also for the beauty and drama of his art. A Middle-earth Traveler is described as a "walking tour" of Tolkien's world, and indeed it does resemble the sketchbook of an artistic wanderer who delights in capturing quick images of the landscapes and people he observes. Some of the sketches later evolve into finished paintings, but many remain in their original rough but very beautiful states.The book is divided into many chapters primarily dealing with landscapes and peoples from the Third Age of Middle-earth, with occasional glances back at earlier days in Valinor, Beleriand, and Numenor. I enjoyed Howe's landscapes, which are usually rendered in muted tones evocative of morning mists. I also liked his detailed architectural drawings, from hobbit holes to elven flets to massive stone fortifications in Gondor and Mordor. His depictions of hobbits, men, dwarves, elves, and orcs are admirable as well. While it is true that no one artist can completely satisfy every reader of works as complex and beautiful as those of J.R.R. Tolkien, John Howe along with Alan Lee, Ted Nasmith, and a very few others at work today come closest to creating an artistic vision which matches the literary vision of Tolkien himself.

If you're a fan of middle earth art, this is worth adding to your collection. John writes like an academic and takes the reader to all sorts of places they might not be familiar with if their only experience is with the movies that he worked on. He is very talented with his pencils. My only complaint might be that some of the paintings (i.e. not drawings) are quite dark and difficult to see in anything less than a very well lit room - I'd have been happy with John leaving the paintings out & sticking entirely to drawings. Still, that doesn't stop this from being one of the finest art books I own & an excellent companion to Alan Lee's excellent LOTR Sketchbook.

I knew this book should be great but it's AMAZING!! I have already sketchbook by Alan Lee, which is great, but this one I like even more. It contains not only in pencil sketches but paintings also. Lot's of inspiration for an artist or a fan of fantasy.

I love John Howe's work but this book has two serious problems. First, it's riddled with typos and misspellings which I could look past but the second, poor print quality, I can't. The color images are so dark they are almost as clear as viewing the Mona Lisa placed at the bottom of a vat of molasses while wearing welding goggles. The pencil drawings that make up most of the art are the opposite. They are very light and almost uniform in their grey color this losing a lot of shadow and contrast. This makes the detail difficult to discern. Maybe I got a bad run? Haven't had a chance to reference another copy so don't know.

This is a wonderful book. Very similar in format and size of the Alan Lee's Lord of the Rings Sketchbook.The illustrations and sketches are wonderful as you would expect from any drawing made by John Howe.The only bad thing about this book is that I wish this book cuold be bigger, so it could have bigger drawings to be able to see all the details of John Howe's great artwork. Althoug the majority of illustrations are pencil drawings, the print of some colored ones are too dark and too small. Anyway, I would recomend this book to any John Howe admirer or Lord of the rings fan.

I have been a fan of all things Middle-earth since I was 13 years old, and feel John Howe's art does the best at capturing the look and feel of that magical place and/or its people with the exception of J.R.R. Tolkien himself. A Middle-earth Traveler and Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth are must have books.

I don't know anything about Middle Earth but my daughter now wants to buy this book for herself since this one is a gift for another person. She was surprised at the detail and what is included. Great find!
